Doepfer’s A-100 Analog Modular System brings back all the flexibility and old-school programming of vintage modular synthesis – but the A-100 is new and comes with some modern features. Just like the classic Moog, Arp, E-mu, Buchla, Serge, and Roland modular synthesizers of the sixties and seventies, the A-100 system is a true analog system, yet it’s only been in production since 1995. It features analog subtractive, additive, FM, wavetable sequencing, and vector synthesis methods. Vince Clarke is a man synonymous with synth pop and a legend in the history of electronic music. He’s famous for founding three of the most popular and lasting musical acts in history: Depeche Mode, Yazoo and Erasure. But his distinct sonic output depends upon another feat: he has spent the last 30 years amassing one of the world’s most impressive collections of rare, ‘holy grail’ analogue synthesizers.

In 2004, Clarke left England for the unsynthesized woods of Maine, where he constructed a temple for these monolithic machines he calls ‘The Cabin,”. and began branching out into (gasp!) software synths too. Recently Motherboard made a pilgrimage to Clarke’s purpose-built digital/analogue studio to meet the musical titan, hear the story of his musical journey, learn how to make the perfect pop song, and get a little demonstration of one of his signature moves: building a drum pattern from a wall of modular synths. To Clarke, music is still magic even now, an alchemy in which he gets to make “something from nothing.

Toontrack’s new BeatStation is a new, fun and creative drum, sample and MIDI instrument for PC & Mac, plug-in and standalone

Not much information available yet but as you will see on the official website, Beatstation plays percussion pads, lead instruments and melodic basses. It uses a flexible and skinnable open playing surface and it handles custom samples, MIDI grooves and .rex files.

At Propellerhead we make software and we’re proud of the fact that our software is so often praised for being stable and bug free. Naturally, we’d like to continue releasing software like this and we think that some of you might be able to help us out with this. We want to build a team of experienced and reliable testers who we can call on when we have something new to put through its paces. A team of Test Pilots!

As a Test Pilot, you’ll be working closely with the Propellerhead developers. You’ll be given access to early versions of products still under development, and you’ll help us test new features and designs.

You’ll be working under a non-disclosure agreement, which we take very seriously – and we expect you to, as well. Yes: you will get to see and play with secret stuff before a whole lot of other people do, but no, you’ll not be able to tell anyone about it. Do you think you can handle this?

We’re not going to lie to you – we’re looking for people who are prepared to put in the hours. Testing isn’t only about playing around with new products. It needs to be carried out methodically and meticulously. You’ll be asked to follow test instructions carefully, and devote some serious time to the testing. If you find something that looks like a bug, you’ll be expected to report it, and if it is a bug, once we’ve fixed it, you’ll be asked to make sure that we’ve fixed it properly.

We will, of course, make it worth your while. Apart from the wonderful warm and fuzzy feeling you’ll get from being a Propellerhead Test Pilot, we will take care of our testing team and make sure our pilots receive VIP treatment with discounts, special offers and more.
